Hi, I’m Grendel Alvarado, aka “The Green Doll.”  I’m passionate about my life, and ensuring it is well-balanced, healthy, and holistic.

I’m a former model who worked “the scene” for almost 8 years, including having won “Philippines Next Top Model” in 2007 (a franchise of the reality tv show  America’s Next Top Model)  .  Modelling opened many doors for me, including travel and working abroad – I was fortunate to have been able to do what I love most, while being paid for it at the same time.  However, as I’m sure you have heard, being a model is not always as glamorous or fun as it appears to be – backstage, away from the runway, lights and cameras, there is an intense and direct pressure to achieve and maintain a certain aesthetic – one that requires emotional, spiritual and physical sacrifices. Thanks to good genetics I’m taller than the average Filipina and naturally slender.  However,  when I first started modelling – and being young, inexperienced and naïve – I thought I could cheat mother nature by binge-eating and then drinking slimming herbal teas to maintain the weight and shape required by the industry. I lived to the extreme – a party lifestyle, poor eating habits, lack of sleep and a narrow view of the world and my place in it resulted in poor choices.  As a result, I was always sick, feeling out of sorts and off-balance.

My journey to gaining control, and developing a healthy lifestyle started 5 years ago when I adapted a VEGETARIAN diet, progressing slowly towards VEGANISM, and eventually switching to a RAW VEGAN diet, which I maintained for a year and a half.  I ate mainly fruits (bananas, mangoes, papayas, and other tropical fruits abundant in the Philippines,) drank smoothies, made raw vegan dishes, and ate BIG salads! I chose organic foods over other food options. It wasn’t easy in the beginning,  but after years of investing in my health I’ve seen a huge difference in my well-being.  I feel healthier, happier, and optimistic about life.

The changes in lifestyle and diet resulted in a number of health benefits – routine sickness that I used to experience (colds, upset stomach, head-aches, fainting spells) are a distant memory now.  I have not taken, nor have needed to take, any kind of over-the-counter pharmaceutical drug or prescribed medicine in years.

Although I’m no longer a raw vegan, I do continue to eat primarily vegan or vegetarian.  It’s all about finding the right balance, in part by continuing to stay in tune with your body as it goes through natural changes and development. In my blog/ website, I will show you how to eat healthy without feeling like you’re missing out.  I will also share “tried and tested” home remedies that I’ve been using to help my loved ones alleviate common flu, cough, etc.  I’ll show you how you can transform your kitchen pantry into a natural medicine cabinet, and so much more!  Also, I’ll be featuring my NATURAL and ORGANIC makeup line for health conscious-chic peeps!
